SATAN OR OUR FREE WILL?

I had lunch with a couple and their seven year old child out in a restaurant not too long ago. I mentioned about the murders you hear on the news today which is just about every day. I also said how terrible it is that we are in a war that is deemed a holy war, or a religious war. I cannot understand how it can be called that when people are being killed every day in other countries.

The wife of the couple that sat across from me in the restaurant immediately replied something like "Yeah, Satan is really at work all over the world". She was putting the blame on Satan for all the mean acts the human being in the physical body does as if they are possessed by Satan in this day and age. I didn't say anymore but, in a way, I wish I had. I realized that her religion (which I won't mention here) probably taught her that and I figured maybe I had no right to go against it.

I began talking a little about when I grew up in late forties and fifties. I could remember my family sat around the radio and listened to the news. This was before TV. We were in World War II around the time of my growing up, yet, I do not remember hearing an every day occurrence of murder in the United States.

In fact, if there was a murder it was so rare everyone would be shocked and talking about it for days. You never heard of "road rage" either at such a crucial time in history. And you never heard of parents killing their children or children killing their parents. You didn't dare talk back to your mother or father or correct them or disagree with them out of respect.

I can remember my father saying to me (not that I always "thought" he was correct) "You can think anything you want but you better not say it or argue with your parents". You could ask a question if what your parents were telling you was confusing you, but you didn't argue with them. Is it Satan at work or the freewill?

This may seem like I am getting off the subject ..... but I wonder?? I remember going to public school and you wouldn't hear a pin drop in the classroom it was quiet while doing your work. If the teacher stood in front of the class and asked a question and you thought you knew the answer you raised your hand to be called on. One person spoke at a time. If you yelled out and did not follow this rule you were scared to death you would be sent to the principal's office. You also worried about the repercussions from your parents when you got home.

When visiting my son's school on Parent/Teacher's Day, I noticed just the opposite. The teacher would ask a question and the children would yell out different answers at will. One girl kept yelling out she wanted to know whose mommy I was and the teacher said nothing as he worked his way back into his classroom to talk to me.

When he finally did walk back and introduced himself the first thing I said to him was "why don't you tell her to be quiet or she will go to the principal's office?" His reply? "We can't send them to the principal's office anymore". No wonder my son had no interest in learning. Is it Satan at work or the freewill?

The couple's child in the restaurant I noticed kept getting out of her seat and standing up on a cushioned chair at a table a couple of feet away touching the pictures on the wall; the parents saying nothing. Is this a sample of how the world is today? We just do what we want, when we want, without asking permission. Thinking we can do what we want when we want at the beginning of our life's journey until maybe, just maybe, we do something we shouldn't towards another later on in life because that is just the way it is now? Is it Satan at work or the freewill?

The next day I turned on the TV and a religious show was on. The preacher was talking about our actions and how it can be against God. And then, there it was, the preacher said "Satan sure is working overtime in our day and age". I must admit I then shut off the TV. I thought to myself "didn't Jesus say "Get Ye behind me Satan"? Didn't Jesus take care of Satan a long time ago?

A client once asked me if I was afraid of Satan. My reply was "No, for if I fear Satan I give him power". I then said "Didn't God give us a free will? He isn't going to make us love him or obey him ... he leaves that up to us. God gave us ten commandments to live by is what all religions teach us. Do "WE CHOOSE" to live by them which, I must admit, isn't always easy while in the physical body, or"DOES SATAN CHOOSE FOR US"?

Do we take responsibility for our own actions or do we give that glory to Satan? Romans, Chapter 12, verse 2 says "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that is good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God". Isn't the choice ours through the FREE WILL?
